Sathyasodhak Samaj

  • Sathyasodhak Samaj was founded by Jyothi Rao Phule in 1873.
  • Phule was born in 1827 in Maharashtra.
  • He has founded Sathyasodhak Samaj for the upliftment of the untouchables.
  • Original name of Jyothi Rao Phule was Gore.
  • He was greatly influenced by the book “Right of man” written by Thomas Paine.
  • In 1848 he started a Dalit School for boys and girls.
  • In 1872 Phule wrote ‘Gulamgiri’ in which he challenged the superiority of the Brahmins.
  • In 1888 he was honored with the title of Mahatma and Popular as Jyothiba Phule.
  • He died on 28th November 1890.
  • Some works of Phule are ‘Dharmathritiyarathnam’, Gulam Giri, Life of Sivaji and Ishara.
