He was initially named
Mudisoodum Perumal
, meaning "Lord with a crown".
Ayya Vaikundar is referred to as the Sampoornathevan.
But the caste Hindus complained to authorities about the naming who forced the parents to change his name to
Muthukutty
.
In 1836 he founded “Thiruvithamkur Samathua Samajam”.
Ayya Vaikundar founded a dharmic belief system known as
Ayyavazhi
(Path of Father).
The second worship places of ‘Ayyavazhi’ is known as ‘
Nizhal
Thangal’
.
The main religious text of ‘Ayyavazhi’ is ‘
Akhilathirattu
Ammanai’
.
His exhortation “One Caste, One Religion, One Clan, One World, One God”.
Ayya was imprisoned by The King of Travancore(Swathi Thirunal) in 1839.
On 3 June 1851 Vaikundar died.
