Ayya Vaikundar

  • Born on 1809 at Swamithop,Nagarcoil

  • He was initially named Mudisoodum Perumal, meaning "Lord with a crown".
  • Ayya Vaikundar is referred to as the Sampoornathevan.
  • But the caste Hindus complained to authorities about the naming who forced the parents to change his name to Muthukutty.
  • In 1836 he founded “Thiruvithamkur Samathua Samajam”.
  • Ayya Vaikundar founded a dharmic belief system known as Ayyavazhi(Path of Father).
  • The second worship places of ‘Ayyavazhi’ is known as ‘Nizhal Thangal’.
  • The main religious text of ‘Ayyavazhi’ is ‘Akhilathirattu Ammanai’.
  • His exhortation “One Caste, One Religion, One Clan, One World, One God”.
  • Ayya was imprisoned by The King of Travancore(Swathi Thirunal) in 1839.
  • On 3 June 1851 Vaikundar  died.
  • one of the disciples of Ayya, Hari Gopalan Citar, wrote the holy book, called Akilam.
