Kuriakose Elias Chavara

Kuriakose Elias Chavara was born on 10 February 1805 at Kainakary, Alappuzha, Kerala.
Father: Iko Chavara
Mother: Mariam Thoppil
Known as Father of Literacy.
In 1829 He was ordained a priest.
In 1830 he went to Mannanam,Kottayam.
In 1831 founded CMI.
In 1846 Started the printing press in Kerala which was the first press in kerala founded by a Malayali without the help of foreigners.
Also in 1846 started first catholic Sanskrit school in kerala.
In 1865 he became the President of CMI
In 1866 he founded CMC.
In 1871 Jan 3 death of Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara at Koonammavu.
In 1987 The President of India R Venkitaraman, released the postal stamp of Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara.
On 23 November 2014, he was canonized at Saint Peter's Square by Pope Francis.
