Brahmananda Sivayogi was born on August 26, 1852 at Kollangod in Palakkad.
He was the 9th son of Smt. Nani Amma of Karat Nair Family and Sri Kunjikrishnamenon of Vellangi Ravanyaram at Nemmara in Palakkad.
Real name of Sivayogi was Karat Govindamenon.
In his Childhood he was called Govindankutty.
He was known as the ‘Guru of Atheists’.
Govindankutty spent his childhood in his mother’s house at Kallankode.
Govindankutty married Thavukkutty Amma at Vadavanoor later she became his disciple and got the titile “Yogini Matha”
Givindan kutty was appointed as a village officer.
He resigned from the post and joined as a Sanskrit teacher in the native school at Kozhikode. He participated in the Brahma Samaj, Kozhikode under Sri Ayyathan Gopalan.
He founded the Siddhasramamam at Vanoor in Palakad in 1891 and later it was Shifted to Alathoor in Palakkad in the year 1907.
He advised to accept the essence from any religion and to refuse the waste.
Sivayogi championed the cause of social reforms among the Hindus by advocating change in Marumakkathayam.
1918 he formed Ananda Maha Sabha.
He Propounded the theory that Ananda (happiness) should be the touchstone of any human activity
