Ganges

  • The Indus River is one of the longest rivers in Asia.
  •  It flows through PakistanIndia and western Tibet.
  • Originating in the Tibetan Plateau in the vicinity of Lake Mansarovar.
  • After entering into Pakisthan the Indus empties into the Arabian sea near the port city of Karachi.
  • Indus is Pakistan's longest river.
  • Major tributaries -  Jhelum,  Chenab,  Ravi,  Beas, Sutlej.
  • Bhakra Dam is a concrete gravity dam across the Sutlej River.
  • It flows through 5 states in India- Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Hariyana and Rajasthan.

Kaveri

  • The Kaveri, also written Cauvery in English, is a large Indian river.
  • The origin of the river is traditionally placed at Talakaveri (Brahmagiri), Kodagu in the Western Ghats in Karnataka.
  • Flows generally south and east through Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and emptying into the Bay of Bengal.
  • After the river leaves the Kodagu hills and flows onto the Deccan plateau, it forms two islands, Srirangapatna and Shivanasamudra.
  • Major tributaries of the river include HemavatiShimsha, Arkavathy, KabiniBhavaniNoyyal,Amaravati.
  • Famous place Tanjavur lies on the banks of river Kaveri.
  • Krishnaraj Sagar  is a dam bilut across the Kaveri river.

Narmada River

  • The Narmada also called the Rewa.
  • The source of the Narmada is  located at Amarkantak in Chhattisgarh.
  • Is the fifth longest river in the Indian subcontinent.
  • It is also known as "Life Line of Madhya Pradesh".
  • It flows westwards draining through the Gulf of Khambhat into the Arabian Sea.
  • It is one of the rivers in India that flows in a rift valley.
  • The other rivers which flow through rift valley include Damodar River in Chota Nagpur Plateau and Tapti.
  • The Mahi River also flow through rift valleys.
